The goal of Postcrossing is to connect the world via real mail, by allowing you to exchange postcards with other random members around the world.
It's been almost eight months since I took up Postcrossing again and I'm so happy I did. It's not only a neat hobby, it's also a bit like travelling without actually setting foot outside your home. Well, except for taking the cards I write to the nearest mailbox, of course. Today I present you my bi-monthly postcard haul though I won't bore you with listing all the countries they came from, as most are the usual suspects anyway. Still, there is one gem that reached me from a rare country and it's such a fabulous card to boot. Curious? It's a postcard from Israel showing the Dead Sea. How cool is that? As to cards being sent out I also had the chance to send one to an even rarer destination, namely Saudi Arabia. Doubly cool, or maybe hot considering the climate. *wink*
While I am happy about (almost) every card design, I do have my preferences which I also included on my profile page. This is why I am have decided to arrange my growing collection not just by country, but additionally put certain themes in a beautiful album I received from my close friend Isabelle last Christmas. Which themes? Tea time and books. So far there is more to drink than read in said album, but I'm only ever starting out with my humble collection.
You also might have noticed that there are quite a few (teddy)bears and monkeys bustling around here. For years I've been collecting Boyds Bears though I had to stop for lack of space, so it's lovely to now welcome new bears by way of mail. The apes on the other hand are because my Mom adores them and while this isn't a hobby she intends to take up as well, she is able to vicariously enjoy it through me now.
Of course sometimes it happens that a postcard is just plain weird or I remain clueless as to why the sender chose it for me. Fortunately this doesn't happen all that often and the good definitely outweighs the bad. I couldn't say which was the worst I ever received, so let's just say that I'm happier with some cards than with others.
And finally, here's the last photo on which you can see the previously mentioned card from Israel. *big sigh* I say, keep those pretty (and rare) ones coming!
Are you a postcard collector or have you ever considered collecting them? Let me know!
